Dear new residents of Halle,
I am very happy to be able to welcome you to our beautiful city. I would like to help you get settled in our city more quickly and discover and use the possibilities that Halle ( Saale) has to offer you. Halle is a cosmopolitan, family-friendly city. It has a rich history with many traditions. For example, the first African student to receive a doctorate in Europe was awarded this degree at the University of Halle in 1727.
The city loves its traditions, but is also glad to accept changes and improvements. I sincerely invite you to work with us towards the goal of enriching our city’s social, cultural and community life with new ideas and thoughts.
The “Door Opener” will help you with this goal. It includes current addresses and contacts at government offices and agencies. Also, it answers many daily-life questions, which you could be faced with in the first months in a new city. You will find, for example, sections on health, free time activities, childcare and much more. The lists of associations and organisations that work with immigrants and towards integration is just as wide-ranging. You can have confidence in these instituations and contact them when you need help.
The “Door Opener” can be seen as a very special “welcome” from the residents of Halle to you. Many associations, initiatives and institutions, as well as citizens of our city, have contributed to the handbook in order to make it easier for you to settle in Halle.
I wish you a delightful journey through our beautiful Halle on the Saale. Take the opportunity to make use of the cultural opportunities and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of our city, together with people you meet here. I hope that Halle on the Saale can become your new home. In the name of Halle residents, I sincerely welcome you!
Mayor of the city of Halle (Saale)
